Art and Design

What is the vision for Art and Design?

At Minworth, we provide an Art and Design curriculum which enables children to explore the visual arts and express their creativity.

To achieve this, children are provided with opportunities to explore Art and Design through the use of sketchbooks where they can develop ideas and record their experiences. From drawing, printmaking and painting to collage and sculpture, our children will explore a variety of forms. Children will build on prior skills as they move from EYFS and KS1 into KS2. Within each year, children will be taught about artists of different forms and how to articulate their thoughts and ideas around the work of said artists. This will progress to skill development in the particular form building to a final piece which will then be evaluated.

We ensure that all children celebrate the work they produce, the progress they make and identify the skills they have acquired as an artist through gallery moments built into each stage of the learning process as well as an evaluation at the end.

We believe that all these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident to be creative and have an appreciation for Art. Our desire is for their creativity to flourish as they progress into secondary Art, with the necessary knowledge and skills.

How do we ensure it?

Art should enable children to communicate what they see, feel and think and through well-sequenced lessons.  We provide children opportunities to experiment with the use of colour, texture, form, line, shape, pattern and different materials. Their sketchbooks are a collation of their ideas.  They allow children to see how their artistic ability progression but reflect and evaluated their creative journey.  Every child is an artist.
